“This experience of doing qualitative data collection in Tinian, Saipan, and Palau was filled with many inspiring and amazing stories. I used to think that being deaf would have many barriers, that I’d never have this opportunity of having the access to local natives’ personal stories in the remote areas. Oh boy, I was definitely wrong! They were even more open to me for several reasons, it’s mainly because I use different language and started to have a heart to heart conversation every single time. I’ve finally understood how to be fully proud of my identity as a deaf person in the system that is designed for hearing people. (This was awesome ride from Saipan to Tinian; 10 minutes flight. Tinian is part of Saipan and is usually neglected.)”  ~Lorne Farovitch, posted to FaceBook on June 27, 2017
